Crochet Society Box 25 – Sachio Ishii

Hi! What are you up to today?

I do all sorts of craft and it is a knitting day for me today. I am knitting a wizard for Knit Now magazine.

This month we’re getting in a holiday mood – what’s your favourite poolside treat?

A nice book and iced coffee with a bit too much sugar.

What is your favourite type of project to crochet?

Toys, of course. I love making amigurumi.

Where’s your favourite place to crochet?

In my dining room with a PC screen for entertainment.

Which of your crochet projects are you proudest of?

I made Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and Woodstock for a magazine project. That is my absolute favourite. I think I did quite well.

What’s the biggest challenge you’ve ever faced with your crochet?

I quite often make characters from children’s TV and cartoons. I need to crochet odd-shaped pieces and they can be challenging.

What’s the best piece of crochet advice you’ve ever received?

I learned to crochet by watching YouTube videos and never had a tutor of any kind, so, unfortunately, no advice was given.

It’s been a difficult year for many of us – what would you say to any crocheters out there who are having a hard time?

Keep creating! Craft has helped me a lot during the hardest time of my life. It may be a good time to engage in a project which demands a bit more skill or to learn a new technique.

I also keep a daily routine with exercise time thrown in. Getting yourself physically active is good for your creativity and mental health!

Do you have any big crochet plans coming up?

I have never done a big crochet project. Maybe someday. I do have a large stash of yarn!
