Introducing Lisa Cook, crochet designer, dyer and author of the fabulous Delicious Crochet Shawls
What is your favourite type of project to crochet?
I love to make and design practical pieces, things that I would be happy to wear every day. An accessory such as a scarf or shawl is perfect, it doesn’t take much yarn and can be worn with anything, I’m obsessed. The beautiful pastel colours in this Kaleidoscope yarn would be perfect with a light summer dress or denim jacket for cooler days.
Which of your crochet projects are you proudest of?
This one is tricky, I think we can all agree, there’s a sense of pride with each and every yarny creation. Although, I’m always super proud when I get to the end of a huge blanket
What’s the biggest challenge you’ve ever faced with your crochet?
Having enough hours in the day to make and design all the things that are in my head. There’s no truer saying than “So much yarn, so little time”
What’s the best piece of crochet advice you’ve ever received?
Creating isn’t instant. It takes time, be patient and enjoy the process. Mistakes happen, and that’s ok, pull it out, start again and always enjoy it. The end product is worth it.
It’s been a difficult year for many of us – what would you say to any crocheters out there who are having a hard time?
We’re lucky to have social platforms like Instagram where we can virtually connect with people who share our passion for crafting. Use it, reach out and get involved in projects and CALs. I’ve virtually met some amazing people on Insta and it’s really helped me stay connected to the outside world and feel I belong to a very special community. Let’s look forward to meeting each other for real at the next yarn festival.
