Crochet Society Box 26 – Marjan Gouda

Hi! What are you up to today?

Hi there! Today I’m playing with colourful yarns. I’m designing new crochet and knitting patterns for upcoming releases and magazine publications.

What is your favourite type of project to crochet?

Probably home decorations, like wall hangings, cushions and blankets. But I really like hats, cowls and scarves too. So a variation of projects that use different crochet stiches and textures.

Where’s your favourite place to crochet?

Surrounded by yarn, plenty of new ideas and some music or a good series.

Which of your crochet projects are you proudest of?

I’m really proud of most of my designs. One of my the designs that I’m most proud of is the Year of Squares Blanket. For the blanket I designed twelve different crocheted squares, one square each month. I love how all the different crochet stitches came together in the blanket.

What’s the biggest challenge you’ve ever faced with your crochet?

A challenge that I sometimes face, is when I have a project in mind and try to make it and it doesn’t turn out how I wanted it to turn out. When this happens I have to go back to the drawing board and come up with a different approach or use different crochet stitches to make the project. This challenge forces me to be creative, learn new techniques and keep trying.

What’s the best piece of crochet advice you’ve ever received?

Focus your attention on projects that you like to work on.

It’s been a difficult year for many of us – what would you say to any crocheters out there who are having a hard time?

It’s okay if you are not feeling well all the time. Try to find a crochet project that helps you relax and take your mind off things.

Do you have any big crochet plans coming up?

One of the goals that I have this year, is to design my first ever garment pattern. Besides designing my first garment pattern, you can also expect to see more patterns for home decorations and accessories.
